Shirley Mae Payne, born June 10, 1944 in Galesburg, IL, passed away on October 23, 2008 in Junction City, KS, after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerald William Payne. She is survived by her three children, Kimberly (Mark) Brejcha of Edward AFB, Ca, Lucinda (Robert) Webb of Junction City, Ks, and Kyle Payne of Minot, ND. Also survived by six grandchildren; Vanessa, Jessica, Katherine, Jackson, Robert and David, and two great-grandchildren; Fiona and Daemon.
Shirley grew up in rural Illinois before marrying Jerald Payne in Phoenix, AZ on March 3, 1965. They lived in many places during their years in the United States Air Force, including Alaska, California, South Carolina, Maine, and Illinois. During these years Shirley enjoyed careers in the real estate business, the Department of Defense and Wal-Mart. She loved quilting, doing crafts, baking and spending time with her grandchildren.
A private memorial was held by her immediate family. A public service will occur next summer at the Veterans cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
