Shirley A. Hammond, 69, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, KS. Ms. Hammond will lie in state Tuesday evening 5-7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street. A private family funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Cremation will follow services. A private inurnment will take place at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the New Church of the Living God.
Shirley was born February 23, 1951, the daughter of John and Loretta Aileen (Dulin)Hammond.
Shirley was the Lead Infant Teacher at Loving Arms Child Care. She also worked as a teachers assistant at the Dotson Community Child Care Center and TFI Child Care. In earlier years, she worked for Kansas State University in the facilities department. She also worked for Whittaker Cable Company in Junction City. She was a member of the New Church of the Living God in Junction City. Shirley can be remembered by her calm spirit and demeanor. She had an infectious smile that spoke many words for those who knew her. At a very early age, she had a love for babies and children. All of her nephews and nieces are still reminiscent of the love and care of their Aunt Shirley.
She is survived by two brothers, John Hammond and his wife Delores of Houston, TX and Carl Hammond and his wife Pamela of Littleton, CO; one sister, Phyllis Cook of Milford, KS; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Doris Shields and one brother-in-law Charles Cook.
