SGT Walter N Alvarenga, 49, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. A public wake will be held 2-5 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Johnson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the Aliento DeVida Church in Salina, KS. A graveside will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with military honors. The address to the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery is 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS 66503.
Walter was born September 13, 1972, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras the son of Rigoberto Alvarenga Perdomo and Lidia Esperanza Orellana Mejia.
Walter served in the United States Army. He was employed as a human resource specialist. He served in the Unites States Army Reserves where he worked as a small arm repairer.
He married Marta Vasquez August 27, 2004 in Honduras.
Survivors include his wife Marta of the home in Junction City, KS; one son, Angel Alvarenga; two daughters, Virginia Alvarenga and Mia Alvarenga all of Junction City, KS; five brothers, Rigoberto Alvarenga, Geovancy Alvarenga, Javier Alvarenga, Edwin Alvarenga and Gerardo Alvarenga; his mother, Lidia Esperanze Orellana Alvarenga; many nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
