SGM (Ret) Leroy Melvin Zubrod, 79, of Milford, KS, passed away on July 23, 2016. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS, 66441.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, 8:00 a.m. at the Main Post Chapel, 6 Barry Ave., Fort Riley, KS, 66442.
Interment with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Kansas Veteran's Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS, 66503.
Individuals without access to base can obtain a pass at the Visitor's Center off the Marshal Airfield exit of I-70. Please obtain your pass a day in advance due to possible waiting delays at the Visitor's Center.
Leroy was born in Eagle, WI, on May 2, 1937, to Louis and Eunice (Schiellack) Zubrod. In 1957, he joined the United States Army where he proudly served over 30 years.
He earned his Associates Degree in business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After his retirement, Leroy went on to sell real estate for 20 years at Century21 in Junction City.
On May 7, 1960, he married his loving wife, Lois Parrott. After Leroy's retirement at Fort Riley, Lois and he resided in Milford, KS.
He loved to fish and was an avid fisherman. He won many trophies and had displays of his fishing prowess. He was also the proud owner a fish circuit named Jackpot Buddy Bass. His other interests included golf, hunting, his family, and the Army. He spent much of his free time fishing with his grandsons, taking his granddaughter to boat shows, and giving treats to his great-granddaughters. Leroy enjoyed the company of his family. He was a member of the American Legion post #45.
He will be missed.
Leroy is survived by his loving family: his wife Lois Zubrod of Milford, KS; his daughter Bonnie and her husband Barry Kluesner of Junction City, KS; his son Robert and his wife Diana Zubrod of Arlington, TX; his granddaughter Angela and her husband Michael Gardner of Junction City, KS; his three grandsons Daniel and wife Rebecca Whitebread of Junction City, KS, Levi and wife Amanda Whitebread of Junction City, KS, and Ryan Zubrod of Arlington, TX; his three great-granddaughters Irelynn L. Whitebread of Junction City, KS, Abygail B. Gardner of Junction City, KS, and Kacelynn R. Whitebread of Junction City, KS; and his five brothers Francis Zubrod of Watertown, WI, Alexander Zubrod Watertown, WI, Gordon Zubrod of Fort Atkinson, WI, Lawrence Zubrod Watertown, WI, and Edward Zubrod of San Jose, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Eunice Zubrod, his sister Shirley Noack, and his brother Robert Zubrod.
