The visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Johnson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This was a charity of importance to Robert as it related to his sister Jeannie.
Robert was born January 21, 1930, in Follansbee, West Virginia, the son of Oliver Martin and Hilda Virginia (Shipley) Norcross. He began his military service in 1948 and continued until 1973. “24 years, 11 months, 26 days” as he liked to state. He worked as a cryptographer to encode and decode top secret military information.
Upon exiting the military, he obtained his associates degree in finance and worked the remainder of his career in civil service. He was twice elected as President of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). He was an active member of the Masonic Temple where he served as Master in 1983.
Robert raised two sons, Robert Lee “Bob” Norcross II, and Thomas Edward “Tom” Norcross. On March 11, 1989, he married Ramona June (Harz) Werrner in Riley, Kansas. Between them they have nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. They made an excellent pair “kicking up their heels” on the dance floor and excelling at bridge. He volunteered to deliver meals on wheels for many years - often to those a decade younger than himself.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
