Robert Carter, aged 88, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on July 17, 1936, in Macon, Georgia, to Rosa Davis and Rosco Carter.
Robert's life was marked by resilience, dedication, and love. Overcoming a challenging childhood, he left home at 17 and, by adjusting his age, enlisted in the United States Army. He served with distinction for 27 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) and participating in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. His commendations include the National Defense Service Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal, among others.
After his honorable discharge on August 31, 1978, Robert utilized his medical expertise as a supervisor in the ambulance department at Irwin Army Community Hospital on Fort Riley.
On August 4, 1957, Robert married Johnnie Mae Jones of Lizzella, Georgia. Together, they raised three children: Tracy Carter of Junction City, Kansas; Regina Carter of Junction City, Kansas; and Ivan Carter of St. Catharines, Canada. Robert was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known for his infectious smile, boisterous laughter, and love of life.
An avid bowler, Robert achieved the remarkable feat of a perfect 300 game, earning the coveted 300 ring-a testament to his dedication and skill. His commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of his life.
Robert is survived by his children, Tracy, Regina, and Ivan; his grandchildren, Jeremy Carter, Janel Carter, and Noah Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Shauntasia Jackson and Summer Mae Evelyn Neufeld Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa Davis and Rosco Carter; his sister, Olivia Carter; his beloved wife, Johnnie Carter; and his grandson, Johnathon Carter.
From Macon, Georgia, to Fort Worth, Texas, to Los Angeles, California, to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, and Junction City, Kansas, and beyond, Robert spread joy to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Laissez les bons moments rouler (Let the Good Times Roll).
Family requests that donations be made to the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), a cause close to Robert's heart.
Robert Carter will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his dedication to his family, and his passion for helping others. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home.
The graveside service will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS 66503.
