SFC (RET) Marcos Macias Sanchez, 94, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Marcos was born on April 25, 1930, in Colon, Panama and was the son of Amador and Juana Sanchez. He was one of 16 children.

Marcos is survived by his loving wife, Elisabeth of 66 years; his son, Pedro & Christy Sanchez of Junction City, Kansas; his daughters, Ursula Sanchez of Farwell, Minnesota, Gabriele Mifflin of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Jutta & Norris Madkins of Apopka, Florida; one brother, Alejandro Sanchez; three sisters, Celia and Maria Francisca, and Ida Payne; five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marcos became a United States citizen by enlisting in the US Army. He served 27 years and retired in 1979, at the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC).

He was known for being a joker, comedian, fun loving, caring husband, father and grandfather.

In his younger years he enjoyed hunting in Panama, telling stories of his childhood and growing up in Panama. He enjoyed playing word games, being an avid reader, doing crossword puzzles, gardening, yard work and playing bingo. He was a very giving individual and enjoyed sharing whatever he had. He enjoyed cooking for others in the neighborhood. He was a member of VFW and Fraternity of Eagles, and the Legion. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at the Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Rosary will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:00 a.m.

The committal service will be held at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Full military honors will be rendered by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
