SFC (Ret.) John B. Pender, 77, formerly of East Grand Forks, MN died on September 7, 2016 at Geary Community Hospital, Junction City, KS. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Dahl Funeral Home in East Grand Forks, MN. Inurnment with full military honors will follow the memorial service at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at the funeral home.
He was born on April 24, 1939, Grand Forks, North Dakota to James and Hazel (Presting) Pender. John served in the National Guard from 1956 to 1957 and joined the United States Army in May of 1957, he served in Vietnam and received the Army Commendation Medal in 1975 and the Meritorious Medal in 1978 and he also received the National Defense Service Medal, after serving 21 years he honorably retired from Fort Riley, KS February of 1978 as a SFC.
Following his retirement he worked as a Security Guard at Woolworth and also for Guy's Potato Chips and other positions in Junction City, KS before moving to East Grand Forks, MN.
John is survived by his son, Mike Pender, his significant other Ronna and her son Trenton all of Junction City, KS; Daughter, Dawn (Andy) Seidel of Leonardtown, MD; four grandchildren, Taylor and Peyton Pender of Junction City, KS and Heather of Gardner, KS and Devin of Leonardtown, MD; brother, Tom (Eunice) Pender of CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Alice Jean, Shirley, Dorothy and Judy and three brothers, Jim "Sus", Lloyd and Vaile.
