Memorial services for SFC (Ret) Geather Bennett, 84, of Junction City, KS will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Cremation will take place and inurnment will be held at a later date. Mr. Bennett passed away after a long illness on January 3, 2008 at Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, KS. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be given to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Hospital-Bldg. #25, Rm. 1066, 2200 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66622.
Mr. Bennett was born November 5, 1923, Madison, FL to Elsie and Emma (Peek) Bennett. He was in the U S Army and served in Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1972 and then worked maintenance for the Army Corp of Engineers for 20 years before retiring fully. He married Anneliese Ohlschlager May 12, 1959 in Kaiserglautern, Germany.
He is survived by his wife; Anneliese of Junction City, two sister-in-laws; Maria Mallory of Ayer, MA and Susanna Jackson of Junction City, KS, one brother-in-law; Gerhard Ohlschlager of Germany, seven nephews; Harry, Peter and Werner Heiden, Frederick Ohlschlager and Peter Reisigel all of Germany and Carlos McFarland and Howard Bennett both of FL, seven nieces; Ramona Buchler and Susanna Weidner both residing in Germany, Essie Mae Branch, Joyce Bennett, Linda Drayten, Clora Honeywell and Fannie Mae Harden all of FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Clora McFarland, Lucille Robertson, Mattie Girly and Louise Jackson and one brother; James.
