SFC (Ret.) Charles William Sowder, 84, of Grandview Plaza, Kansas passed away on June 1, 2018. Cremation is planned. A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS 66503. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Charles' memory with the Church of the Nazarene, 1025 S Washington St, Junction City, KS 66441.

He was born on November 20, 1933, Mount Vernon, Kentucky to Andrew and Geneva (Manis) Sowder. On April 3, 1954 he married Joanne Sowder and they had 5 children.

Charles joined the US Army on January 21, 1954 in Cincinnati, OH. He served his country for 24 years, 7 months, and 12 days, retiring on August 31, 1978 from Fort Riley, KS. While in the Army he served in Korea for 13 months, Vietnam for 12 months, and did 2 tours in Germany totaling 7 years.

He loved Country & Gospel music and his favorite Gospel songs were: When the Roll is Called Up Yonder, Softely and Tenderly, In the Sweet By and By, and I'll Fly Away.

Charles is survived by his Daughters, Kelly Puhr of Junction City, KS and Karla Wasion of Waco, TX; Son, Billy Sowder; 11 Grandchildren, April, Nikki, Talia, Brian, Maegan, Codi, Amanda, Trevor, Marianna, Lakin, and Haley; 9 Great-Grandchildren, and Brothers, Wayne Sowder and Don Sowder.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Andrew and Geneva Sowder; Wife, Joanne Sowder; Son, Daniel Sowder; Daughter, Kim Boore; Granddaughter, Melanie; Brother, Bobby Sowder; and Sister, Ruby Jeffers.

Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, of Junction City, is assisting the family with arrangements.
