SFC (RET) Avortia J. Cook, 82, of Milford, KS, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Geary Community Hospital. A graveside with military honors will take place 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Avortia was born January 27, 1940, in Norfolk, VA the son of Willie and Malinda Anna (Davis) Cook, Jr.

Avortia served in the United States Army until his retirement. After his retirement he worked as a truck driver for Foot Locker in Junction City, KS. He was a member of the American Legion Post #45 in Junction City, KS. He enjoyed watching football and enjoyed following the Kansas City Chiefs.

He married Mary N. Owens July 25, 1970 at Fort Riley, KS.

He is survived by his wife Mary Cook of the home in Milford, KS; one sister, Dorothy Mae Cook-Hodges; a host of nephews and one niece.
