Funeral services for SFC E-7 John D. Smith (Ret), 64, Junction City, KS will be 10:00AM Friday, July 6, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with Dr. Rev. Joe Belardo and Sung Tae Kim officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Cemetetry. Mr. Smith passed away June 30, 2007. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Korean Grace, 629 Grant Ave. Junction City, KS. Baptist Church Cemetery

Mr. Smith was born January 22, 1943 in Phoenix AZ. John served in the US Army from November 9, 1965 to April 1, 1986 serving multiple tours in Vietnam. He received the following medals while serving there. The Vietnam Service Medal with two Silver and one Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf, Bronze Star Medal, And Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a local business owner.

He was married to Hwa Ja Hwang in Hawaii in July of 1975, she survives.

Other survivors include; Stepsons John Walsh, Michael Walsh both of Junction City; daughter Kelly Phelps, Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren. and his best friend (Dog) Princess.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother Buddy.
