Graveside services for CW3 (Ret)Seymour Colbert, 89, of Junction City will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Father Dale Plummer will officiate. Mr. Colbert passed away at Valley View Senior Life Center on November 18, 2009. Reception will follow the services at Guild Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been designated to the Episcopal Church of the Covenant, 314 N. Adams, Junction City, KS 66441.

Mr. Colbert was born January 12, 1920, Brooklyn, NY. His parents were Harry and Miriam Goldberg. He joined the U S Army December 7, 1937 earning the American Defense Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from the U S Army in October of 1963.

Following his military service he was a Letter Carrier for the U S Postal service for 18 years as well as a Private Investigator. He was hired at the age of 75 as an investigator for the Public Defender's office in Geary County before retiring at the age of 83.

He married Irene H. Lawrence January 12, 1942 she preceded him in death March 19, 2005.

He is survived by three sons, Gary Colbert of West Virginia, David Colbert of San Francisco, CA and Michael Colbert of Olathe, KS and two daughters, Diann Colbert and Meghan Colbert both of Junction City, KS and thirteen grandchildren, William Colbert, Wayne Colbert, Margaret Franey, Gary Colbert, Jr., Michelle Jones, Connie Beatty, Sue Britton, Vicky Thomas, Steven Colbert, Daniel Colbert, Jeremy Self, Tamara Self and Diana Allen, twenty two great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
