Funeral services for Seldon M. "Chic" Aska, 90, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2009, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Mr. Aska passed away on June 29, 2009. Mr. Aska was born January 3, 1919, in New York, NY to Alderman Aska and Lillian Warner Aska. He earned his education in the New York City School System at the Metropolitan School of Music and the Institute of Music Active and Art. He was a drummer and had played in many bands earning the nickname "Chic". He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in WWII. His time in the military ended at Fort Riley, KS. Mr. Aska held several positions with civilian personnel at Ft. Riley before retiring as a Systems Information Supervisor. He was the former District Governor for Lions International and had served in years past on the Pawnee Mental Health Board and had been involved with Crime Stoppers and Head Start in Junction City.
He married Mary Sue Cox, who preceded him in death October 10, 1988. He is survived by two sons; Alvin Aska of Lakewood, CA and Cecil Aska of Junction City, KS, two daughters; Melva Wilkins of Cincinnati, OH and Susan Parker of Chester, VA, sister; Murid Selkridge of Wayne, NJ, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and two step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; Carlton, Cecil and Ovrin, a stepsister; Adrienne Breeden, and a granddaughter; Whitney Parker.
Pallbearers will be Elias Garcia of Topeka, KS, Brad Scholz, Charles Richmond, J.W. Thompson, Pierre Roberge and Jackie McDonald, all of Junction City, KS.
