Services for Ruth Marie "Sugarpie" Carroll, 77, of Junction City will be Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Leonard Gray officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 26, 2004, 6 - 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Burial will be at Fort Riley Cemetery. Mrs. Carroll passed away May 22, 2004 at Mercy Health Center, Manhattan, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to donor's choice.
Mrs. Carroll was born September 13, 1926 at Mobile, AL to Lottie Mae (James). She moved to Philadelphia, PA at an early age, graduating from John Bartram High School. She then went to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, oral hygiene program. She moved to Junction City, KS in 1971 and resided there until her passing, she worked in the Dental Clinic at Fort Riley for more than 25 years.
During her life in Kansas, she was a member of many Masonic Auxiliaries and Civic Organizations, she was Past Worthy Matron of Gustava L. Epps Assembly, #85, Order of Golden Circle, Manhattan, KS. She served as President of Ladies VFW Auxiliary, #8773, Junction City, KS, and Fourth District President of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, KS, was a lifetime member of the Mozella McKay Phyllis Society, served two terms on the Junction City Human Relations Commission Board and was presently serving on the Junction City 911 Board.
She was married to Arthur S. Carroll, Jr. He still survives.
She is also survived by three nieces; Nancy (Doug) Garth and Linda A. Jouridine both of Lexington, KY, and Stephanie M. Morland of Gary, IN
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge and VFW #8773
Organist will be Frances Clark.
