Ruth Arline Simonton Keeler-Brown

June 23, 1922 — June 6, 2015

Ruth Arline Simonton Keeler-Brown, 92, of Junction City, KS, formerly of Dublin, OH, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Geary Community Hospital. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Alta Vista Cemetery. Reverend Laurie Barnes will officiate. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the First United Methodist Church 804 N. Jefferson Street Junction City, KS 66441.

Ruth was born June 23, 1922, in Dwight, KS the daughter of Hugo and Edith (Ross) Simonton. Ruth grew up in the Alta Vista area and graduated from the Alta Vista High School in 1941.

Ruth enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. She served in the Women's Auxiliary Voluntary Emergency Service. She was reassigned to the Armed Guard in the Pacific Paymaster's Office until the end of World War II. She later worked in the United States Navy Record Department in Washington, D.C. She was the Vice President and Bookkeeper for the E.C. Jones Trucking Company in Columbus, OH for most of her life. She was a charter member of the Navy Waves Organization, Women in Military Service for America Memorial. Ruth was a member of the Chapter #109 Ohio Eastern Star in Hilliard, Ohio where she received her 50 year pin in 2009. She was also a member of the Chapter #421 Eastern Star in White City, KS. She also spent spare time cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, gardening and canning. She was known for the hundreds of jars of grape jelly she made.

She married Edward A. Keeler on February 26, 1944 in San Francisco, CA. Ed passed away November 17, 1997. His interment took place at the Alta Vista Cemetery near Alta Vista, KS. She later married Earl M. Brown October 5, 2002. Earl passed away January 4, 2013. His interment took place at the Welcome Cemetery in Eastern Geary County, KS.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Keeler and his wife Joni of Lewis Center, OH and Mark Keeler and his wife Laura of Delaware, OH. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
