Russell Kenneth Smith, 48 of Topeka, formerly of Junction City. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with the burial at Highland Cemetery. Reverend Kenneth Perkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66604 and/or Midland Hospice Association, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.

Russell was born in Junction City on Feb. 20, 1956 to Silas Smith II and Willie Mae Smith. Russell passed away at home on June 20, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. Before his calling home he chose to spend his last days with his children and siblings.

He attended Junction City public schools through his years of growing up. Russell later worked as a laborer in the construction field. He worked the last five years at Concept Foods in Alma, KS.

Russell loved the lord and professed Christ as his savior. He has a kind soul and a warm heart, he would go out of his way to help others. To have a friend like Russell was to have a friend for life.

Russell is survived by one son, Kenneth Smith of Topeka and two daughters, Ardette Smith of Tulsa, OK and Myia Ramsey of Wichita. He was also blessed with one granddaughter from Myiah, Janyiah Potts of Wichita, six brothers, Harold Smith of Tulsa, OK, Howard Smith of Topeka, Silas Smith III, Johnnie Smith, Richard Smith and Michael Smith, all of Junction City and five sisters, Ardette Phillips of San Francisco, CA, Lillie Smith of Dallas, TX, Linda Williams of Junction City, Debra Bevier of Topeka, and Brenda Stewart of Olathe, five step-grandchildren. He has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and firends who loved and cared for him very much. One dear special friend to Russell was Angela Braxton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Harold Smith, Howard Smith, Silas Smith III, Richard Smith, Johnnie Smith and Michael Smith.
