Graveside services for Russell K. Powell, 59 of Junction City will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mr. Powell passed away at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan, on March 31, 2004.
Mr. Powell was born on Nov. 28, 1944 in Lawton, OK, the son of Philip and Bertha Arlington Powell.
He retired as a first sergeant after 26 years in the Army. He had served two terms in Vietnam. He was also a circulation manager for the daily union newspaper. He has been living in the Junction City area since 1991. He was a graduate from Central Texas College.
Survivors include three sons, Kirk Powell of Oklahoma City, OK and Phillip and Randy Powell of Junction City; three brothers, Wallace Sammons and Gary Sammons, both of Lawton, OK and Keith Powell of Shawnee, OK.; two sisters, Janice Stott of Lawton, OK and Karen Hatchett of Elgin, OK; four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
