Rosemary "Lee" Buchanan, 88, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Valley View Senior Life Center. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel located at 203 N Washington Street in Junction City, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.
Lee was born on January 14, 1927 in Wichita Falls, Texas and raised in Denison, Texas. She graduated from Denison High School and attended TSC College in Denton, TX. She was employed at the United States Army Recruiting Office, where she met Bill Buchanan who she married on April 24, 1947. Bill was in the Army and they were able to travel to such places as Japan, Germany, Italy, France, as well as numerous big cities in the United States. They raised two daughters, Kathy and Tracey. They moved to Junction City, Kansas in 1966; to Big Sandy, Texas in 1996, then to Leavenworth, Kansas in 2002 where Bill passed away on May 21, 2006. In 2013 she moved back to Junction City where she lived the remainder of her life.
She loved to play golf with her husband and friends and Bridge with the girls. One of her favorite past times was watching hummingbirds. She was a very kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters: Kathy (Steve) Knetter and Tracey Oakley, four grandchildren: Amy Knetter, Kari (Jason) Post, Casey Brown and Cody (Courtney) Brown, five great grandchildren: Taylor, Hunter, Brason, Kalynn and Barrett. She was preceded in death by her parents: Eugene and Mary Rose Friend and her husband: Bill Buchanan.
