Funeral services for Rosanna Augusta Upham, 86, of Junction City, KS will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Alan Estby officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 6p.m.-8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Mrs. Upham passed away at Valley View Senior Life Center on July 23, 2011. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 S. Eisenhower, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mrs. Upham was born May 17, 1925, Rural Geary County, KS to Emil H. and Gertrude C. (Carlson) Strauss. She attended rural Berry School and graduated from Junction City High School.
She married Billy N. Upham, Sr. May 13, 1945 he preceded her in death March 23, 2004.
She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Lutheran Women Missionary League, where she held every office in that league including zone president for seven years. She was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years and had served as church secretary for nine years. She was active in Bible study group, a member of the Lutheran Layman's League, served as organist of the St. Paul's Lutheran church, was a member of Town and Country EHU and a member and secretary for 8 years in the Tri County School Food Service Association. She was Treasure for Rural Water District 1 for over 20 years.
She had worked for USD 475 as the Head Cook for seven years and then as the Head Cook for the Immanuel Lutheran Church School for 25 years. Rosanna was very well known for her delicious cinnamon rolls. Rosanna and her husband Billy operated the Junction City Municipal Golf Course for many years and later the J.C. Miniature Golf and Driving Range.
She is survived by her sons; Billy N. (Terri) Upham Jr. and Kenneth L. (Kathy) Upham of Junction City, Ks, two daughters; Gloria J. (Melvin) Blowers of Sautee, GA and Kathleen L. (Kenneth) Albers of Chapman, KS, her brother, William O. (Lois)Strauss of Junction City, KS and her sister, Cecelia R. (Norman) Helmke of Abilene, KS, eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and her companion, Mr. Carrol Robertson of Salina, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Emil H. Strauss, Jr. and Emory C. Strauss.
