Funeral service for Rosa Baldwin-Carter will be Wednesday, November 16, 2005, 11 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Leonard Gray will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 15, 2005, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will be in Fort Riley Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 701 W. 10th St., Junction City, KS 66441.
Mrs. Carter was born February 4, 1935 in Bessemer, AL, daughter of Ed H. and Lula M. (Dickens) Perkins. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, AL, and went on to receive her PHD in Philosophy from Kansas State University in Dec. 1994. She was a teacher at Washington Elementary for many years and also taught some college courses in Topeka, KS. Mrs. Carter was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She married Charles Baldwin February 21, 1956 in Columbus, MS; he preceded her in death August 12, 1992. She later married Ulysses J. Carter July 15, 1995 in Junction City, KS; he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her mother, Lula Dickens; brother, William V. Wright; and sister, Edna Perkins all of Bessemer, AL.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Pallbearers will be Deacon Walter Pinkney, Deacon Bobby G. Whitten, Deacon Aaron L. Berry, Deacon Jimmy R. Williams, Deacon Joseph Edwards, Brother Jackie Johnson, and Brother John Slappy.
Music will be provided by Frances Clark.
