Ronald Shandy

Funeral services for Ronald "Ron" Shandy, 72, of Milford, KS will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Milford Congregational Church with Pastor Steward Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Cemetery. Ron passed away Saturday December 27, 2008 at Manor Care in Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald Shandy Memorial Scholarship Fund and left or sent in care of the funeral home.

Ron was born January 27, 1936 the son of George P. and Dorothy E. (Moyer) Shandy. Ron graduated from Milford High School in 1956. He then served in the Kansas National Guard. Ron married Betty Gene White May 9, 1959, he and Betty Gene owned and operated Shandy Apco in Milford during the 60's and 70's, Betty preceded him in death October 20, 1990. He knew everyone in the community, worked hard and was a friend to so many. During the 80's and 90's he worked for USD 475 School District as a custodian at Milford Elementary for many years then at Jefferson Elementary and at Fort Riley, KS until he retired. He was loved by many of his co-workers and students at both schools. Ron enjoyed farming his entire life with his brother Gabe and during retirement with Ken.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Shandy of Milford, KS, Bryan Shandy of San Francisco, CA., daughter Lisa Shandy Peyton of Smithville, MO, eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Sady, Kaibni, Samantha, Mathew, Dougie and Blake, one great grandson, Kade, one sister Joan Martin of Junction City, one brother, Gary and wife Joy of Milford, KS, Brother-in-law Bob and wife Judy White of Overland Park, KS and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Shandy.
