Ronald John Forkenbrock, 74, of Manhattan, KS, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Good Shepard Hospice House. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt officiating. Burial will immediately follow Mass at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. Ronald Forkenbrock was born September 8, 1944 in St. Louis, MO the son of Ambrose and Rosemary Forkenbrock.
He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1962 and Kansas State University in 1967.
Ron married Connie Wolf on December 31, 1966 at St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, KS.
Ron served in the U.S. Army for 23 years and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. During his military service, Ron was stationed at Fort Riley with the First Infantry Division. He worked in Military Intelligence and the Army Space Institute. He retired from Ft. Leavenworth as Lieutenant Colonel.
He was an active member of Manhattan Catbackers, Stagg Hill Golf Course, and St. Isidore's Catholic parish. Ron was an avid supporter of Kansas State Athletics. He and Connie regularly attended and traveled to football, men and women's basketball, and baseball games to support student athletes.
Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years Connie Forkenbrock of Manhattan, KS; three children, Jeffry Forkenbrock and Sarah McClain of Chicago, IL, Scott and Jennifer Forkenbrock of Lawrence, KS, Bradley Forkenbrock and Courtney Watson of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren Donnie Ray and Pryse Mc Guire of Kansas City, KS; siblings Pat Cervera of Arvada, CO, Bill and Sandy Forkenbrock of Topeka, KS, and Karen and Gary Eddy of Junction City, KS. Plus, many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
