Robert August Wolff passed away on August 17, 2021.
"Bob", as we all knew him, was born in a farmhouse in Cameron, Mo on July 23, 1943 to Otto Wolff and Merle (Reed) Wolff. Bob grew up on the farm running through pastures, playing with many cousins and causing mischief with his older brother and friends building rockets and trying to send them into space.
Bob attended a country school and eventually school in town, graduating from Cameron High School in 1961. He learned to work at an early age, helping his dad on the farm, setting pins at the bowling alley in town and then became a projectionist at the local theater and at the drive in theater. After 1 year of college he joined the United States Navy on August 14, 1962 and became an Air Traffic Controller. Bob was stationed on the USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War and other places around the Pacific Ocean and West coast facilities. He left the Navy in 1967 and moved to Los Angeles, CA where he went to broadcasting school and ended up working for ABC studios on several different programs, meeting many of Hollywood's greatest actors.
Bob's heart was still set on Air Traffic Control. He left LA and went to Air Traffic Control school in Oklahoma where he became an Air Traffic Controller. He worked at the airport in Santa Rosa, CA where he met his lifelong best friend, Toni. They married October 13, 1975 and their together journey began.
In the years following, they started their family with the births of their 2 daughters, Jamie and Sarah. The major event of being fired by President Reagan along with 1,000's of other Controllers led him to getting a Controller job at Ft. Riley, KS and making their home in the country outside of Junction City.
Bob retired from Civil Service at Ft. Riley, learning to love retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church and loved the years spent teaching Sunday School, Bible Studies and other events.
He loved living in the country, mowing, sitting on the porch for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evenings. He was an amazing cook and loved cooking. He took over the family cooking when he retired. He loved grandkid sleepovers, friends and family get-togethers. He started volunteering at Broken Wing Ranch Ministries and enjoyed time doing chores with Toni.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Wolff and Merle (Reed) Wolff, Brother Fred Wolff, infant son Brian and beloved Son-in-Law Matthew Walsh.
Bob is survived by his wife Toni Wolff, daughters Jamie Walsh (Calvin Conary) and Sarah Brown, grandchildren Brian and Lizzie Brown and Scarlet Walsh, Sister-in-Law Janice Wolff (and family) and Andrew and Augusta Gutmann and girls.
A celebration of life will be September 4, 2021 at 11 am at the First Christian Church at 1429 St Mary's Rd, Junction City, KS. A Visitation will be held at the church on September 3, 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
