Memorial services for Robert Stiles Baker III, 36, Junction City will be 11:00am Saturday, February 7, 2009 at American Legion Post #45, at 4th and Franklin with Father Al Brungdart officiating. Burial will be a later date. Robert passed away January 28, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapter 780 Purple Heart or Sons of the American Legion and may be left or sent to The American Legion or funeral. home. Stiles, as he enjoyed being called was born April 16, 1972 in Fort Riley, KS the son of Robert Stiles and Elizabeth Ann (Yonke) Baker. His younger years were spent growing up in Colorado. He graduated from Gateway High School in Aurora, Colorado, in 1990.
Robert became a member of several veterans groups because of his father. He was Squadron Commander of the Sons of the American Legion. a member of the Honor Guard for the American Legion, playing Taps, honorary member of American Legion Riders, Jr. Vice Commander of the DAVA., Americanism chairman of the Purple Heart Chapter 780 and on the house committee at the Elks.
Stiles was very talented artist. Everyone of his pieces you could see the soul in the eyes. He also liked to collect many things which included belt buckles, knives, Spawn figures and anything that had to do with Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. He was preceded in death by his father and maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his mother Elizabeth Baker, sister Heather Pemberton, his nephew Brandon Settle (who was like a son to him) as well as many, many friends, all of who will miss him.
