MADISON, WI- Robert C. Sherraden, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Attic Angel Place in Madison. He was born on Dec. 25, 1915, in Chapman, Kan., the son of Arthur and Mabel (Marshall) Sherraden. Robert married Madeline Amthauer on Aug. 24, 1941, in Kansas City, Kan. Following their marriage, Bob and Madeline opened a small grocery store in Manhattan, Kan. until the flood of 1951. They then relocated to Junction City, where they opened Sixth Street Grocery, which they operated until 1965. Bob then returned to Emporia State Teachers College and earned a Bachelors degree in Education. He then taught middle school until his retirement in the early1980s. Bob and Madeline loved to travel and camp, once claiming to have been in all 48 contiguous states. Even following Madeline's death in 1996, Bob continued to live a full and happy life. Robert is survived by his sons, Dennis (Deborah) Sherraden of Middleton, Wis., and Michael (Margaret) Sherraden of St. Louis, Mo; granddaughter, Catherine; grandsons, Samuel, Collin, Brian and Aaron; great-granddaughter, Zya; sisters, Mabel and Virginia (Dave); brothers, Edward (Gerry) and Kenneth (Gerry); and thirty-eight nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, LaVern, Arthur, Elwood and George.
Funeral services will be held at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 804 N. Jefferson St., Junction City, Kan, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, with Reverend Dr. Kenton D. Van presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Junction City, Kan. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare or the Kitchen Fund at First United Methodist Church.
