A Celebration of Life for Robert S. Wilson, 69, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Kenton D. Van officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Mr. Wilson passed away at Salina Regional Medical Center on November 26, 2010. Cremation will take place following the services and inurnment will take place at a later date at the Claytonville Cemetery which is Northeast of Horton, KS in Brown County.
Memorial contributions have been designated to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441 or to the Madonna Foundation 5401 S. Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68506.
Bob was born in Horton, Kansas, June 1, 1941, to Raymond S. Wilson and Ida (Oswald) Wilson. He grew up on a farm near Willis and graduated from Willis High School. He attended Highland Community College and Kansas State University. After serving in the Navy for four years as an air traffic controller, he came to Junction City in the late 1960's to manage Junction City's first travel agency. In 1973 he became co-owner of Bob & Gene's Travel and JC Furniture. He retired in 2002 as broker/owner of the original JC Century 21 Real Estate office. He was a member of the Elks, JC Board of Realtors, and Kansas Board of Realtors.
He was a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of K-State sports, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Junction City community. His hobbies included watching sports and the western channel on TV. Prior to his illness he enjoyed traveling, camping with his family, lots of fun trips with the grandchildren to Branson, and working in the yard. Bob had a tremendous sense of humor that he has passed along to his children and grandkids.
On December 26, 1971, Bob married Pam (Anderson) Wiehl. He is survived by his wife; daughter Lesli Wilson; son Troy Wiehl; granddaughters Kassie Wiehl and Haylee Wilson; grandson Alex Day; great-granddaughter Maci Kinser; two brothers, Raymond Junior Wilson of Salinas, California and Duane Wilson of Lemoore, California; three sisters, Darlene Bindel of Hiawatha, Gloria Earlywine and Karolyn Austin of Topeka; and many, many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leland and D. Steve Wilson.
