Robert "Bob" J. Schmidt, 79, of Junction City, died August 24, 2015 at his home. Bob was born June 28, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Henry and Elsie (McDaniel) Schmidt. Bob attended schools in Fulton, Missouri and graduated from Fulton High School in 1953.

Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and spent a successful career in the military, retiring as a First Sergeant on September 30, 1981 at Ft. Riley. After his military career, Bob worked for many years for Jim Taylor Construction in Junction City.

Bob was baptized as a member of the Catholic Church.

Bob married Son Pi Penman on January 3, 2005 in Junction City. Son survives of Junction City. Other survivors include: 2 sons, David Wayne Schmidt and Robert Joseph Schmidt; a step-son, John P. Perryman; 3 daughters, Emily Louise Edwards, Laura Leigh Baber and husband Adrian, and Elizabeth Lynn Ballentine and husband Charles; a step-daughter, Lisa Montgomery and her husband Lawrence; a brother, Henry Schmidt; a sister Joyce Vandeloecht; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. The family will greet friends 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., on Friday at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
