Robert W. "Bob" Hayhurst, 81, Junction City, KS, died Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Virginia.
Bob was born July 3, 1938, in Norfolk, VA the son of Abner and Viola (Small) Hayhurst.
Bob served three years in the United States Air Force. After his stint in the Air Force, he went to work with father who owned several businesses. He later became a firefighter for the City of Norfolk, VA and the Norfolk U.S. Naval Air Station. He was medically retired in 1985. After his retirement, he became a beach comber working on fishing touring boats. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had a great interest with visiting museums and reading about american history.
Survivors include one son, Robert Hayhurst and his wife Palma of Junction City, KS; three daughters, Robin Hayhurst of Norfolk, VA, Karen Haines-Hayhurst of Petal, MS and Sarah Hayhurst Minor-Peet of Alexandria, VA; one sister, Viola Hayhurst of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Roseann, Christopher, Lauren and Kimberly; five great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ava, Lily, Breahna and Reagan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Kathleen Hayhurst; one brother James "Jimmy" Hayhurst and one sister, Dorothy Hayhurst.
