Robert (Bob) E. Swartz, 80, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on December 10, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Bob moved to Olathe in June 2005 from Junction City, KS. He was born April 27, 1931 in Alta Vista, Kansas to Walter and Allie (Edwards) Swartz. He graduated from the Alta Vista High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyer the USS Trathen during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He married Twila L. Stewart on June 5, 1951 in Alta Vista, Kansas. He worked for Holsum and Rainbo Bread Companies and retired from Frito Lay in 1986. After retirement he worked for several years in the grounds department at Fort Riley.
Bob is survived by his wife Twila of Olathe, one daughter Sherry (Bob) Schuster, Lenexa, Kansas and three sons Robert, Jr (Cheryl) Abilene, Kansas, Stephen (Janell) Hutchinson, Kansas and Jay (Jeanie) Gardner, Kansas. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is survived by one brother Duane Swartz, Abilene, Kansas and one sister Wanda Dunn, Louisburg, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father in 1978, his mother in 1994 and two brothers Clifford Swartz in 1998 and Lester Swartz in 2002. The grandchildren will be the pallbearers
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Alta Vista Cemetery, Alta Vista, Kansas with Pastor Shane Britt officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
