KS, Chaplain Michael Wood will officiate. Bob died May 1, 2003 at Salina Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, 2003, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel. Bob was born March 31, 1921, during a blizzard Rural Ellsworth County, to W.E. and Grace Belle (Allen) Sheridan. Bob married Alice Wallert, April 17, 1949, Ellsworth, KS. Lt. Col. Sheridan was a retired Infantry man. Lt. Col. Sheridan joined the horse cavalry at Fort Riley prior to World War II when he was only 17 years
old. Eventually stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ, he performed border patrol on horseback on the Arizona-Mexico border. After Pearl Harbor he transferred to the Infantry. He participated in 5 campaigns in the 329th Infantry 83rd division in Europe, 3 in the 35th Infantry 25th Division in Korea, and 1 in the 1st Infantry Division in Viet Nam. Lt. Col.Sheridan received a Battlefield Commission in WWII. He was wounded twice. Awards and Decorations include 2 Combat Infantry Badges, The Legion of Merit, 2 Purple Hearts, the Russian Army Red Star, the Polish Army Service Badge, Korean Presidential Citation, and 16 other awards and decorations. Sheridan was stationed at Fort Riley, KS; Camp
Atterbury, IN, Wales; Rennes, Germany; Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Fort Crowder, MO;
Toule, France; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Fort Devens, MA; and Seoul, Korea. He occupied all positions from squad leader through battalion commander, advisor to the DCS log of the Korean Army and G4 of a division and post. After retiring from the Army, he served another 27 years as a civilian at Fort Riley,
primarily as Director of Logistics. Following Operation Desert Storm he was recognized by the AUSA and Chief of Staff of the Army as The Most Outstanding Civilian Employee in the U.S. Army. His final position was as the first civilian Deputy Garrison Commander. He retired at the age of 74. Sheridan was an avid horseman and a soldier's soldier. Survivors: Wife; Alice of Junction City, KS, Two Sons, Rob Sheridan of Manhattan, KS and Reno Sheridan of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Four grandchildren, Three Sisters and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
