Private family graveside services for Robert C. Brent, 82, of Rural Junction City, KS will be held at Highland Cemetery on Thursday, April 30, 2009 with Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo officiating. No visitation is planned. Mr. Brent passed away at his home on April 26, 2009. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is assisting the family with service arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to Geary County Historical Society, 530 north Adams Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Brent was born October 19, 1926 in Missouri Valley, IA, the son of Paul and Mabel (Carlson) Brent.
He lived on a farm near Modale, IA, after leaving high school, Bob went into the U. S. Army, serving from 1944 to 1952. He was wounded in action while serving with the 11th Airborne Division on Luzon, in the Philippine Islands, August 2, 1945.
He served in the Army of occupation of Japan with duty on Okinawa. In July 1950 he was sent to the Republic of Korea with the 8th U.S. Army. Bob was wounded in action three different times, his awards include the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart Decorations. After leaving the Army in 1952, he went to various colleges and universities, using the G.I. Bill, the University of Washington, and the Pacific States University, later earning a degree in Engineering.
Bob retired on April 3, 1992 as a supervisor at Fort Riley, Ks with 32 years of federal civil service. He held life memberships in the American Legion, Post #45, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 78, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Member at large) chapter 2001, and the national Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 383.
He married Maxine Weber in Sheridan, WY in 1955. Maxine passed away on July 31, 2000 in Junction City and a son Bobby Brent in Denver, CO in May, 2003.
Survivors are a son, David Brent of Puyallup, WA and two daughters, Holly Conary of Junction City, KS and Carole Bailey of Maricopa, AZ. Twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and
one great-great grandchild.
