Robert Richard "Dick" Auld, 83, passed away in Laramie, WY while traveling from Kansas to Washington on December 11, 2018. Robert (known as Bobby Dick or Poooor Richard) was born October 24, 1935 at the Auld home south of Wakefield, KS. Growing up on the family farm attending the country school (sunny slope) and then graduated from Wakefield High School in 1954 where sports, friends and family were an important part of his life. In 1955, Dick was in a car accident. After the car accident the farming vocation became difficult. He moved to Richland, WA to live until he found full time employment at Boeing in Seattle, WA. A year later, he moved back to Wakefield, KS to take up farming. After he moved back to Wakefield, he met Carol Mellinger from Milford, KS. They married in 1961. They had two children, Robert Scott and Rebecca.
The family moved to Kennewick, WA in 1966 where Dick worked on farms and with International Harvester, until he got a permanent job at the Hanford Nuclear Plant which lasted for 25 years. Because of Dick's love of farming, he bought 15 acres outside of Kennewick in 1975 where the family had many farm animals. Dick loved hunting, fishing and collecting vehicles (1967-1972 Chevy trucks, Blazers and Suburbans) until he reached 31of those models, then he continued with newer models until he reached 45 at one time. He also collected guns, coins and many pheasants which are located throughout his home. The family enjoyed camping trips to the ocean, Kansas and to many truck shows. Friends and family were so important to him.
Dick leaves behind his wife Carol, his son, Robert Scott; daughter, Rebecca (Mike) McLaughlin; granddaughter, Haley; brother, Samuel (Pat) Auld and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2018 at Wakefield Methodist Church with Reverend Peter Mtuamwari officiating, burial will follow at Madura Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City, KS 66441. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wakefield Museum or to Columbia Industries Sheltered Workshop 900 S. Dayton St, Kennewick, WA.
