Richard O. Wolters, 76, of Junction City, died Aug. 6, 2013 at Geary Community Hospital. Richard was born Jan. 6, 1937 in Atchison, the son of Theodore J. & Katherine Whelan Wolters. Richard graduated from St. Xavier High School in the Class of 1955, and was veteran of the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he attended Kansas State University, studying Zoology. He was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church and Alcoholics Anonymous, where he was very active. He had worked as a store manager for Sears, and a moving and storage business. After retirement, he worked part-time for the City of Junction City.
Richard is survived by his life partner, Maria Sexton, Junction City; 2 daughters, Laurie Swanson and her husband Christopher, Downington, Pa., and Becky Boschert and her husband Shawn, Orlando, Fl.; a sister, Kathleen Woodsmall and her husband Lee, Gladstone, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Theonne Carter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, with Fr. Kerry Ninemire presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday, 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service and Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Xavier Catholic Church.
