A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard W. Spittles, 67, Junction City, Kansas will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Co-Celebrants will be Father Louis Mattas and Father Henry Baxa. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Mr. Spittles passed away Friday, September 29, 2006, at the Enterprise Estates Care Facility in Enterprise, Kansas afer numerous years of battling ALS. Visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2006 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church, 218 North Washington from 6-8:00 p.m. with the parish rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Xavier's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Cemetery Association or to the Enterprise Estates Care Facility. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Richard was born June 26, 1939 in Ogden, KS to Herbert C. and Lottie Marie (Thomas) Spittles. He attended grade school and graduated from high school at Saint Xavier's. He attended Creighton University.
After school he worked for the U.S. Government as Chief of Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) at Fort Riley, KS. Richard's facility received DRMO of the World and DRMO of the Year under his guidance. Richard was awarded the Meritorious Service Award and Hall of Fame Award. He was an auctioneer-instructor for DRMO.
Richard was a member of Saint Xavier's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church at Fort Riley, KS. He was a CYO Instructor, Religious Instructor and sang in the choir at St. Mary's
He is survived by two brothers William H. Spittles of Junction City and Darrell J. Spittles of Abilene, KS; two sisters Lois M.Barton of Killeen, Texas and Iris E. Sanders of Junction City, KS; 4 nephews, 6 nieces and great nieces/nephews.
Richard was prececed in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Steve Barker, Jerry Frakes, Chad Yeager, Cliff Gordon, Jr., Larry Langvardt and Charles Caspar, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Edmund W. Hudspeth, Col (Ret) Michael Lauri, Dale Pancake, Larry Riffel, Leland Sharpe and Rudolph Vopata.
Organist will be Anita Hernandez and Vocalist will be Father Joe Popelka
