Richard C. "Scotty" Scott

Richard C. "Scotty" Scott, 79, of Junction City, died October 3, 2017 at Valley View Senior Life. Scotty was born September 21, 1938 in Walters, Oklahoma, the son of Robert R. and Audrey (Fair) Scott. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1956. He joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from high school and served for 3 years.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #830, the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1037, and the Earl C. Gormley, Post # 45 of the American Legion, all in Junction City.

Scotty was an over-the-road truck driver, hauling freight for Crete Carrier Corporation, Stienbecker Trucking, and OTRX Trucking for many years, retiring in 2004. After his retirement from Crete Carrier Corporation, he worked for 7 years as truck driver for Eagle Services on Ft. Riley until his retirement from Eagle in 2011.

Scotty married Janice R. (Hobgood) Chartier in 1960. They were later divorced. He later married Joyce Cunliff. They were later divorced.

It was Scotty's wish to be cremated.

Survivors include: a son, Rick Scott, Junction City; a daughter, Shelley Welton and her husband Tom, Edwardsville, KS; 2 brothers, Arthur Betts, Broadway, North Carolina, and Robert Scott and his wife Carol, Fraser, Michigan; a step-brother, Dennie Hartley; 4 step-sisters, Francine Harold and her husband Donnie, Katherine Rawlings, all of Junction City, Louise Nacena, Brooklyn, NY, and Carol Bechsoner, Philadelphia, PA; 4 grandchildren, Jordan Dougherty and his wife Jaclyn, Stephanie Thompson, Deanna Creelman and her husband Ben, and Amy Salazar and her husband Gary; and 6 great-grandchildren, Colton Dougherty, Chloe and Isabella Creelman, Nicholas, Nathan, and Naiara Salazar. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Mary "Irene" Kirchoff on May 23, 2014.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017, 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #830, 203 E. 10th, Junction City, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
