September 5, 1935 — July 31, 2012

Richard D. Lacey, 76, of Junction City died on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel of Junction City. A graveside inurnment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS with full military honors. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 2001 S. Lindburgh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131.

Richard was born on September 5, 1935 in Springfield, Illinois to Nicholas and Drotha Lacey. He married Evelyn Derry on May 10, 1957 in Springfield, Illinois.

He served in the Army from 1954 until his retirement in 1977 as a Sergeant Major. He also worked for the Civil Service and the State of Kansas, until his final retirement in the early 1990's. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Junction City Shrine Club, Mini Wheels Club, Topless Travelers, and Isis Temple. Like every good Shriner, he enjoyed attending parades with fellow members and helping children in need.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Lacey of Junction City, daughter Cindy and husband Dennis Costlow of Junction City, and son Steven and wife Sigrid of Council Grove. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Nicole Lacey of Council Grove and Elizabeth Lacey of Centerville, South Dakota and by one great-grandson, Emerson Guy Switzer of Centerville, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Drotha Lacey, and by one grandson, Joshua Lee Kramer.
