A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at the Church of the Nazarene in Junction City, Kansas for Richard "Rick" D. Fulk, 51, Junction City. Pastors Jim Bond and Geoffrey Gunter will officiate. Dr. Robert Edwards will accompany Rick's trumpet instructor Dr. Craig Parker on the organ. Other music will be provided by Kelsie Clark a Senior at KU. Burial will follow the service at the Milford Cemetery. A visitation will take place 6 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions may be given to the Church of the Nazarene 1315 W. Ash Street, P.O. Box 1487 Junction City, Kansas 66441. Rick slipped into eternity March 27, 2008.
Rick was born August 5, 1956, in Horton, Kansas the son of Hurshel S. and A. Arlene (Woodruff) Fulk.
Rick and Kelly J. Martin were married June 28, 1980, in Junction City.
Rick has been in the retail flooring and decorating business in Junction City since 1978. People remember Rick and his Dog Bullet in his Plaza Carpet Commercials. Others will remember Rick "as an extraordinary musician and one of the best trumpet players ever heard". Rick has played in numerous bands including the KU Marching Band, K-State Jazz Band, Kansas Brigade Band, Junction City Community Band, Abilene Community Band, Manhattan Community Band and the Heart of America Band. Rick also played his trumpet with the Salina Orchestra, Junction City Little Theatre, High School Musicals and the Praise and Worship Band at his church. Over the years, many have enjoyed his recitals and music at weddings, funerals and hospitals throughout the country. Rick especially enjoyed playing Handel's Messiah in the Flint Hills Messiah Chorus in Wamego, Kansas.
Besides his music, Rick has served on the various Boards including the Church of the Nazarene, Sundown Salute and Junction City Little Theatre. He and his wife Kelly sponsored the singles ministry at the church. His sense of humor will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow musicians and physicians.
Rick is survived by his wife Kelly and one son Brandon of the home in Junction City. He is also survived by his parents, Hurshel S. and A. Arlene Fulk of Hiawatha, KS; one sister, Janet Irwin of Hiawatha, KS; three brothers, Dr. Larry Fulk and his wife Penny of Paola, KS, Dr. Charles Fulk and his wife Fawn and John Fulk and his wife Barb all of Olathe, KS. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his favorite mother-in-law Joan Martin.
Rick was preceded in death by is beloved dogs, Chester, Macintosh, Maggie and Bullet.
The casket bearers will be Rick's Nephews, Tracey Irwin, Dr. Justin Fulk, Chad Fulk, Dr. Corey Fulk, Colby Fulk, Matthew Fulk and Qinn Martin.
