Funeral services for Rev., E-7 Sherman L. Brookins US Army (Ret), 85, Junction City will be Friday March 30, 2007 at11:00 am at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Leonard Gray officiating, Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Rev. Brookins passed away March 25, 2007 at Salina Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be Thursday, March 29, 2007 6:00-8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel 805 Caroline, Junction City, KS 66441.
He was born February 25, 1922 in Belzoni, MS the son of John Wesley and Janie (Hall) Brookins.
Sherman served in the US Army from 1946-1977 retiring with 31 years of service as a E-7. He attended Manhattan Bible College and served as a associate minister at Second Missionary Baptist Church for many years where he was a member.
He married Nellie James February 3, 1954 in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death December 13, 2002.
Survivors include three daughters, Doris Williams, Kansas City, MO, Geraldine Whitfield, Far Rockaway, NY, and Virginia White, Hinesville, GA; one son Issac Jackson, Abilene, KS; three sisters Rebecca Davis, St. Louis, MO, Annie Mae Starks, Detroit, MI, and Ruthie Mays, Detroit, MI; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, John and Jeff Brookins.
