Renee' L. Horn, 52, Clay Center, died on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. with Pastor Rob Stewart officiating. Inurnment will follow at Gatesville Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:30 pm also at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Big Lakes Developmental Center, 1416 Hayes Drive, Manhattan, KS 66502.
Renee was born on June 8, 1959 to Lovell and Thelma (Wagner) Horn in Logansport, Indiana. She attended Fort Wayne State Developmental Center where she received her education.
She loved music and in her own special way, Renee' played the piano. She also loved to write and was constantly writing whenever she had a chance. A few of her greatest enjoyments included listening to the radio and watching television, participating in group outings with her friends, and spending the weekends with her sister and her whole family.
She was employed by the Big Lakes Developmental Center in Manhattan in their workshop. Renee' lived in a group home in Manhattan with six other lady friends and her around-the-clock caregivers. She had a truly special relationship with all of them.
She is survived by her mother, Thelma Cameron and her step-father Leonard Cameron of Clay Center; two sisters, Rebecca Blackburn and her husband, Walt of Clay Center; and Reta Davies and her husband, Richard, of Rapid City, South Dakota. She is also survived by three nieces, Angie Peterson, Melissa Kling, and Laura Fitzpatrick; and one nephew, Rob Blackburn as well as nineteen great-nieces and nephews and three great great-nieces and nephews.
Renee was preceded in death by her father, Lovell Horn; one brother, Rex Horn; and her niece, Lisa Hill.
