Raymond L. Moreland

Raymond (Ray) Lee Moreland, 85, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on January 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. 

Raymond was born on June 14, 1939, to Earl and Hazel Moreland in Junction City, Kansas. Growing up, his family owned a grocery store, Moreland's Market. Between the family market and his grandparents farm, Raymond preferred working on the farm, as did his family. He was a Junction City graduate, Class of 1957. 

After graduation, Raymond married his high school sweetheart, Ruth. They were married for 55 years until her passing in 2015. They had two children together and raised them in Junction City. 

Ray met Dottie Kvasnica during 2018, and married shortly after. They met from a mutual friend from church and they shared six happy years of marriage together. 

Ray served his country honorably through the U.S. Army. While serving, he was a helicopter mechanic which also inspired his grandson, Mason, into his aviation career. 

After his honorable service in the U.S. Army, Ray transitioned into electrical work. He was a Lineman for KP&L for 16 years. After his 16 year career, he worked as a farmer until his retirement. While he enjoyed retirement, Ray was a very active individual and wanted to keep this lifestyle by working at Kansas State University for an additional five years. 

Being out in nature was very important to Ray. The whole Moreland family found themselves on many different adventures during their outdoor expeditions with Dad. These expeditions include camping, canoeing, fishing, and he even did some mission work in Alaska and Oklahoma. These adventures did not stop with his children, but continued on with his grandchildren. 

Raymond's ability to work with wood was truly a gift. He did many projects for his church, schools, 4-H, and family members. Some memorable ones to include his stage backdrops for the school, the 4-H floats, and the games he made for church. 

His gifts of wood work will be missed by the ones he loved and the countless children he brought joy to with his wood projects.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Dottie; two children, Rodney (Anna) Moreland and Resia (Mark) Muto; two stepsons, Phil Kvasnica and Andrew (Trisha) Kvasnica; five grandchildren, Marissa (Andrew) Gomez, Mason Muto, Luke Moreland, Micah Moreland, and Macie Muto; two brothers, Ernie Moreland and Larry Moreland; two sisters, Faye Harp and Nadene Denn and a host of other loving family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth and his parents.

The family would like memorial contributions to go to the Geary County 4-H Program or the Westview Community Church in Manhattan. 

A visitation will be held at the Westview Community Church on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life service starting at 11 a.m. 

A private family committal service will be held at Good Hope Cemetery in Chapman, Kansas.
