1SG (RET) Raymond “Ray” R. Chenault was born 30 May 1937 at Jackson, Kentucky to the late Mr. Raymond R. Chenault and Mrs. Martha (Hollon) Chenault. He departed this life Sunday December 15, 2024.
Mr. Chenault retired after 21 years of service in the United States Army. He served in leadership positions from Squad leader to 1st Sergeant. Mr. Chenault was the recipient of numerous decorations and citations. His overseas tours included Korea two times, Germany, Vietnam, Hawaii, and Alaska. He retired at Fort Riley, KS in 1975. He worked at Fort Riley as a Maintenance Technician for 21 years. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Pearl Harbor Chapter and TREA, the retired enlisted association, the Junction City American Legion, and the Junction City Kiwanis Club. He and Jim Mitchell started the Terrific Kids Program at Milford Elementary School in 2020.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Linda K. Chenault of Milford. His son and wife Robert and Cindi Chenault of Roanoke, Va. His daughter Martha Chenault of Waynesboro, VA. Three grandchildren Wolfgang and wife Jessica Chenault of Roanoke,VA., Molly Chenault of Emporia, KS, and Billie Chenault of Roanoke, Va. 3 Great grandchildren Abi, Leia, and Ti Chenault.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday December 22, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home.
A graveside funeral service will take place at 10 am on Monday December 23, 2024 at The Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road with full military honors. Pastor Dirk Westerman will officiate.
A celebration of life will follow the graveside at 11:30 am Monday at Milford Congregational Church.
