A Memorial Service for Raymond E. Carlyon, 91, Junction City will be held at 10 a.m.,Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be 2 p.m.,Friday, April 24, 2009 at Humboldt Creek Cemetery with military honors, cremation has taken place. Pastor Matthew Glasgow will officiate. Mr. Carlyon passed away Friday, April 10, 2009, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Junction City. Mr. Carlyon was born November 17, 1917, on the family farm southeast of Junction City, KS to William Edgar John and Ida (Luthi) Carlyon. He graduated from Humboldt School. He joined the U S Army September 23, 1942 and was honorably discharged December 3, 1945. He served in the 37th Engineers Combat Battalion and was part of the Normandy Beach invasion on D-Day. Mr. Carlyon met Rose Ellen Sharp while she was teaching at the Humboldt School, and married her on May 1, 1947 at her parent's farm by Riley. She preceded him in death September 11, 1987.
Mr. Carlyon was a farmer and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Geary County Public Works Department where he retired. He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, Geary County Farm Bureau and the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder and deacon over the years.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Carlyon of Junction City, KS, two brothers-in-law, Ernest (Irene) Sharp and Sid (Jerri) Achenbach, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rose Ellen, and his son, Robert Edmund Carlyon.
