Ray Walker, 76, of Junction City passed away on December 30, 2011 at Valley View Senior Life Center. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street with Reverend Phil Fischer officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 3p.m. to 4p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions have been designated to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or the American Diabetes Association, 10580 Barkley, Ste. 400, Overland Park, KS 66212.
Ray was born October 15, 1935, Knoxville, TN to Roy and Rosie Lee (Whitner) Walker. He had served in the United States Army and came to Fort Riley in 1957.Following his military service he was a night supervisor at the commissary and had worked there for 31 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He had been a CubMaster of Pack 64 and was one of the founding members of the Twin Dam Sams Chapter of the Good Sams Camper Club and served in several offices of that organization including president. He was very involved with the Geary County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and had also served as president.
He married Nadine C. Jaecke April 20, 1958 she survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children; Richard R. Walker of Manhattan, KS, Andrew C. (Karen) Walker of Topeka, KS and Theresa M. (Mark) Elzinga of Wichita, KS. Sisters; Peggy Hickman of TN Geraldine (Larry) Setzer of Knoxville,TN, his half-sisters Marie Spangler of Cleveland, OH and Sami Kay Parker of Knoxville, TN and half-brother Paul Roy Walker of Knoxville, TN and four grandchildren; Christopher, Amber, Patrick and Matthew Elzinga.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ailene (Clark) VanHorn.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Walker, Richard Walker, Mark Elzinga and Christopher Elzinga.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Jaecke, Carl Mathes and Dick Mathes.
