Ray M. Kamphaus

Ray Millard Kamphaus, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 6, 1947, in Junction City, Kansas, Ray was the beloved son of Donald and Mary Ellen Kamphaus.

Ray was a man who lived his life with passion, integrity, and an unyielding dedication to his family and community.

He attended Saint Xavier’s Catholic School, graduating in 1966, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country as part of the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War.

Ray's career as a master electrician showcased his skill and dedication. For many years, he owned and operated his own successful business, earning respect from clients and friends. His work was marked by precision, reliability, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

On December 16, 1972, Ray married the love of his life, Susan, in a union that would span over fifty years. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared countless cherished moments. Ray is survived by his devoted wife Susan; daughters Jessica Ruble and her husband Jeff Ruble, Erica Kamphaus, and Vanessa Kamphaus. He was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren: Arianna Bowser, Gavin Ruble and Stella Ruble.

Ray was a man of many interests and talents. A passionate golfer who could often be found on the course at Rolling Meadows Golf Course, where he was a valued member of The Friends of Rolling Meadows Golf Course. Ray also loved cheering on the K-State Wildcats, hosting legendary tailgates that brought friends and family together for food, fun, and camaraderie. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and The Elks, contributing his time and energy to these organizations with his characteristic generosity.

Music, dancing, and celebrations were at the heart of Ray's spirit. He was known for his love of storytelling and jokes, bringing laughter and joy to every gathering. His vibrant personality and infectious enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Ellen Kamphaus, and his brother, Donald Kamphaus.

His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Johnson & Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home on Thursday September 26th from 5:00pm-7:00pm, followed by a Vigil at 7:00pm.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Ray's life will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on September 27, 2024, at 10:30 AM.
