Ralph Small, 85, of Junction City passed away due to lung cancer at his home with his family by his side on January 19, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 11a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Highland Cemetery with Pastor Alan Estby officiating. Visitation will be held, Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 S. Eisenhower Dr., Junction City, KS 66441 and an organization of donor's choice.
Ralph was born November 6, 1928, Junction City, KS to John and Martha (Turnbull) Small. He was a graduate of Junction City High School, class of 1948. Ralph worked at various businesses over the years, including Waters True Value, Good Samaritan Home, 4-H Senior Center, KDOT and retired as a Facility Engineer for Civil Service at Fort Riley, KS.
Ralph was considered a Jack of all Trades, he enjoyed painting and trading vehicles, wood working and tending to his garden. Ralph never met a stranger and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He married Maxine Ruth Kramer September 6, 1948 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, she preceded him in death July 19, 2013. His main devotion in life was caring for his wife Maxine through her battle with Multiple Sclerosis and her additional battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by daughter; Ethel Jacobson (Jerry) of Abilene, KS, son; Dale Small (Eileen) of Junction City, KS, six grandchildren; Stephanie Edmonson (George) of McPherson, KS, Heather Razak (Ross) of Lawrence, KS, Kelly Kramer of Junction City, KS, Jason Jacobson of Avondale, PA, Christopher Small (Allison) of Seattle, WA and Lori Harold (Jason) of Ortig, WA and eight great-grandchildren; Maisie Edmonson, Rhett Edmonson, Karley Kramer, Zachary Razak, Ava Razak, Carter Harold, Ty Harold and Blakely Small. He is also survived by three sisters; Ruby Reynolds of Orange Lake, FL, Lola Sells of Ben Wheeler, TX and Viola Schacher of Columbus, NE and two brothers; Aubrey Small and Herbert Small (Donna) all of Junction City, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son; Donald "Don" Small, sisters, Norma Strauss, Wilma Shane and brother, Calvin Small.
