Memorial services for Ralph S. Manning, 90, of Junction City will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until time of service. Mr. Manning passed away at Geary Community Hospital on March 28, 2010. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church, 1429 St. Mary's Road, Junction City, KS 66441 and or the Open Door Food Pantry, 136 W. 3rd Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Ralph was born August 28, 1919, Indianapolis, IN the son of Alfred and Elsie (Bills) Manning. He attended elementary and high school in Indianapolis. Graduated Purdue University, attended Indiana University, also attended Butler University for graduate work.
He entered Federal Civil Service as a Supervisory Civil Engineer and served in various locations in the U.S. and Europe. As a Reserve Officer he served in World War II and Korea. He retired from Civil Service in 1978. He relocated to Junction City in 1997.
He served as past President of the Rotary Club, past Exalted Ruler of the Elk's Lodge, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eagle's Lodge and American Legion.
He is survived by sons, Tom R. Manning of Junction City, KS, Shawn K. Manning of Ninevah, IN and Terrance M. Manning of Waukesha, WI, seven grandchildren, Heather Boland of Junction City, KS, CW-1 Joseph Manning of Germany, Conner Manning and Collin Manning of WI, William Manning, Mindy Stephenson and Missy Holloway all of IN and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Erma (Bivens) Manning and son, Sam A. Manning.
