Ralph Fine, 86, of Junction City, died April 24, 2015 at the Sterling House in Junction City. Ralph was born at the family home near Quenemo, KS, the son of Everett F. & Ola O. (Failor) Fine. Ralph graduated from Lyndon High School in 1946, and immediately entered the U.S. Army. He served in both WWII and the Korean War. He was discharged in 1951 as a 1st Sgt., and entered Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, now Emporia State Univ. He graduated from college in 1954 and began teaching science at Lyndon High School. In 1964, he and his family moved to Junction City, and he started teaching at Ft. Riley Middle School, where he taught 9th Grade science. He taught there until he retired in 1989.
Ralph was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and served on the Board of Trustees and Administrative Board. He was a member of the Junction
City Education Assn., the K.N.E.A., the N.E.A., the National Science Teachers of America, and the Square Dance Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and playing golf, and after his retirement, growing watermelons and pumpkins.
Ralph married Vonna E. Scott on Nov. 8, 1954 in Emporia. She died Feb. 11, 1988. Survivors include: a son, Keith Fine and his wife Tina, Milford; 2 daughters, Connie Schlageck and husband Joe, Manhattan, and Shirley Mukai and husband Daniel, Williamsport, IN; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and an aunt, Ina Arnett, Lawrence.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wed., April 29, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Laurie Barnes presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS.
