Ralph E. "Hildy" Hilterbrand, Jr., 92, of Junction City, passed away on December 14, 2015 at Brookdale of Junction City. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Elk's Lodge from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. following the services.
He was born on August 18, 1923, Junction City, KS to Ralph E. and Ruby V. (Dickey) Hilterbrand, Sr. Hildy graduated from Junction City High School in 1941 he attended Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina for 1 year before joining the Navy and serving in WWII. When he returned from the Navy he opened Hildy's Sinclair Gas Station and later Hildy's Boats & Motors after 35 years he retired and then went to work at WalMart as "Ralph the Greeter".
Hildy was a very active member of the Optimist Club in the 60's and 70's, he served as President of the Kansas Marine Dealer Association and was a lifetime member of the Elk's Lodge and the American Legion.
On May 1, 1945 he married Betty Jean Mass she preceded him in death January 12, 1986. On July 4, 1988 he married Bonnie Wheatcraft they later divorced.
Hildy is survived by his Daughter, Vicki Allen (Bill) of Weidman, MI; Granddaughters, Julie DeVolder (Mark) of Shawnee, KS; Wendy Rogers (Steve) of Meriden, KS; Step-Grandson, Chip Allen (Denise) of Platte City, MO; Step-Granddaughter, Jill Allen of Lutz, FL; Nine Great-Grandchildren and Four Great-Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Bob Hilterbrand, two sisters and his step-granddaughter, Tracey Samuels.
