Rafael A. "Falo" Alvarez-Ayala, Sr. 69, of Junction City, died July 18, 2013 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Rafael was born Oct. 24, 1943 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, the son of Rafael A. & Juana Ayala Alvarez. He attended schools in Puerto Rico, and graduated from high school in Puerto Rico.
He was retired from the U.S. Army and Kansas National Guard.
Rafael married Elizabeth Quinones on Sept. 23, 1999 in Junction City. She survives. Other survivors include: 2 sons, Rafael A. Alvarez, Jr, Junction City, and Alexander Yambo, Leavenworth; 4 daughters, Yolanda Alvarez, Junction City, Laverne Cooper, Wichita, Hailey Alvarez, Laveen, Arizona, and Yahaira Yambo, Waco, Texas; a brother, Miguel Alvarez, Kissimmee, Florida; 3 sisters, Margarita Alvarez, Rosa A. Alvarez, and Sylvia Alvarez, all of Puerto Rico; 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan. A visitation will be held 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City. Military Honors will be provided by the Kansas National Guard .
